On the 23rd of April we celebrate Saint Jordi’s Day. He is not only our Saint Patron; it is the Day of the Book and Rose. It is a special day for all Catalans.
There is a legend which tells de story of a brave
boy called Jordi who fought with a dragon. This dragon wanted to eat the
princess of the castle, but Jordi arrived on time and killed the dragon. Roses
grew from the blood of the dragon. Jordi took a rose and gave it to the
princess. In exchange for the rose, the princess gave Jordi a book.
Since that
day, all the Catalans celebrate Saint Jordi’s Day by giving each other roses
and books. We also hang the Catalan flag from balconies and gardens.
The colour of the rose has a different meaning. Which colour of rose did you choose?
-
The
red one is the passionate and exciting one; it means a lot of love.
-
The
blue one means confidence, harmony and affection.
-
The
yellow one is ideal for teenagers. It means warning, satisfaction and joy.
-
The
orange one means happiness and pride in your achievements.
-
The
pink one means ‘’gratefulness’’.
-
The
white one means true love, very happy and long-lasting.
-
The
purple one means seduction and desire.
-
The
green one means hope, rest, youth and balance.
-
The
black and grey ones mean separation, sadness, death and boredom.

ReplyDeleteDoes everybody celebrate Saint Jordi's Day? And do you have to celebrate in order to get a book and a rose?
